DevSafe Privacy Policy

Effective date: 13 October 2026

The short version

01What DevSafe does

DevSafe is a Chrome extension with one purpose: it lets you save text you select on web pages (code snippets, AI prompts, notes and links) into a private list, and insert that text into text boxes on other pages.

02What data DevSafe handles

DevSafe only handles what you choose to save, and only on your device:

DataWhy
The text you select and saveThat is the item you want to keep and reuse.
The title and web address of the page you saved it fromShown on the item so you remember where it came from. Not kept for private (incognito) windows.
Any name, tags or folder you addTo organise and search your list.
When it was saved, and how often you used itTo sort your list by newest or most used.
Your settings (sort order, folders, shortcut hints)So DevSafe remembers your choices.

When you save text, DevSafe checks it on your device for things that look like a password, API key, card number, PAN or Aadhaar number, only to warn you before saving. The result of that check is not stored or sent anywhere.

DevSafe reads a page only at the moment you ask it to (when you save a selection or insert an item), and only in the tab you are using. It does not read your browsing history, run in the background on the sites you visit, or record what you type.

In Chrome Web Store terms, this is "website content" (the text you save) and "web history" (the title and address of the page you saved it from).

03Where your data is stored

Everything is stored with Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local, inside your own Chrome profile on your own device. DevSafe has no server, no database and no cloud backend of any kind.

Backups. If you click "Export backup", DevSafe creates a .zip file that your browser saves to your Downloads folder. That file stays wherever you keep it; DevSafe never uploads it. "Import backup" reads only the file you choose.

04Who can see your data

Only you, and anyone who can use your Chrome profile on your device. The developers of DevSafe never receive your data in any form, so we cannot see, sell, share, correct or delete it on your behalf. There are no third parties: no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking services.

05Permissions, and why DevSafe needs them

PermissionWhat it is used for
storageKeeping your saved items and settings on your device.
contextMenusAdding "Save to DevSafe" and "Insert from DevSafe" to the right-click menu.
activeTabWorking only in the tab you are using, and only right after you click DevSafe, use its shortcut or its right-click menu.
scriptingReading the text you selected when you save, and typing a saved item into the text box you clicked when you insert, only at that moment.

DevSafe does not ask for access to all websites, does not run scripts on pages in the background, and does not read your browsing history.

06Your control over your data

Because your data never reaches us, privacy rights under laws such as the GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act can be exercised directly by you, on your own device, with the controls above. If you have a question, contact us (section 11).

07Security

Your items are protected by Chrome and your device's own security (your device login and Chrome profile). DevSafe does not add its own encryption, so anyone who can use your Chrome profile can open DevSafe. For that reason DevSafe warns you before saving passwords, keys, card or ID numbers. Exported backup files are plain .zip files: keep them somewhere safe.

08Children

DevSafe is a productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, of any age, because it does not send data anywhere.

09Limited Use

The use of information received by DevSafe is limited to providing its single purpose described above, and adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. DevSafe does not sell user data, does not use or transfer it for advertising, creditworthiness or lending, and does not allow humans to read it.

10Changes to this policy

If DevSafe's data handling ever changes, we will update this page and its effective date, and show the change inside the extension before it takes effect. A change that would send data off your device would ask for your agreement first.
